U.S. Army Awards BAE $162M to Restart M777 Howitzer Production
BAE Systems has secured a $162 million contract from the U.S. Army to manufacture major structures for the M777 lightweight howitzer. The work involves both U.S. and UK supply chains and will begin delivery in 2026, with initial components being produced at a new facility in Sheffield, UK.
The M777, known for being half the weight of other 155mm towed howitzers, offers superior mobility and rapid deployment. With over 1,250 units already in service globally, it’s the only battle-proven lightweight 155mm howitzer in the world.
BAE says the contract revitalizes production and strengthens support for NATO allies, especially amid ongoing operations in Europe
