The concept of single-engine airliners has intrigued aviation experts for years. With advancements in engine technology, like the GE9X and Rolls-Royce UltraFan, it's technically possible for a large aircraft to fly with just one engine, offering massive cost savings. However, current regulations, including FAA and EASA mandates, require multiple engines for safety redundancy. Although future propulsion systems, like hybrid-electric engines and AI-driven maintenance, might one day make this a reality, today’s technology and safety standards still prioritize redundancy. For now, two engines remain the golden standard in aviation
