Taking advantage of Julian Assange's arrival in the Mariana Islands, after all the saga surrounding his arrest and subsequently staying in the Ecuadorian Embassy, we set out to learn about the Mariana Islands.

  • They are located very close to Australia and are a territory of the United States, with approximately 90% of the population living in Saipan.
  • The islands have a rich war history, having been colonized by Spain in 1668, then taken over by the United States following the Spanish-American War in 1898.
  • They also played an important role in World War II during the Pacific Theater and were the site where the first nuclear bomb was kept.
  • It is a tropical destination where Chinese and South Koreans enjoy visiting, with an average temperature of around 29 degrees Celsius.
  • Naturally, being islands in the Pacific, they are prone to natural disasters.
